Born in Huntsville, Alabama, Libbi grew up in a NASA-oriented household. When her grandfather died in 1965, the family discovered an old Bible in the attic. Inside were births, deaths and marriages--genealogy--going back to the War of 1812.  From that moment, her mother Frances Powell was addicted to puzzling out who those ancestors were, where they came from and where they went. By 1980, J. T. Powell, Libbi's father, had created a database for all the data collected thus far by going to libraries, court houses, newspaper offices and cemeteries. There were even family vacations that involved genealogy research!! Libbi spent several years editing both LeDespencer  for Spencer Genealogical and Historical Society and Valley Leaves, the publication of the Tennessee Valley Genealogical Society. Now she writes regularly for local and national publications and she is now a regular on DearMYRTLE's Family History Hour. She is also a member of the Florida Public Relations Association, and handles PR for businesses and non-profits, writes resumes, creates publicity materials, writes press releases, and handles all sorts of communications needs! Libbi's degree in journalism helped her in researching genealogy and online resources, as well as to write the many magazine articles and books she has published. She has written on business, travel, genealogy, online technology and software, and hopes to continue for 30 more years!
